Missile Systems Evaluation

APTEK has been extensively involved with the analysis and testing to determine the response of missile systems to intense cold x-rays generated by nuclear weapons or laser systems. Included has been the interpretation of system requirements, determination of test requirements, test matrix design, detailed experiment design, experiment fabrication and instrumentation, support of instrumentation recording, pre and post test analysis, final correlation of the measured response data with analytical codes and the interpretation of the data as regards to impact on design concept, test performance and/or additional experimental needs. We have had responsibility for large scale experiments on nuclear tests conducted underground as well as for electron beam, ion beam, plasma radiating source and flyer plate x-ray simulation tests. We routinely use state-of-the art computer codes to predict radiation transport and energy deposition, impulse generation, shock wave formation and transport, thermal response and structural response. Non-linear response codes are used in one, two or three dimensions as required.

APTEK developed the Thermo-Structural Response Validation Methodology. This determined the methodology to validate strategic systems to thermostructural response in the absence of underground nuclear testing and full scale simulators. This TSR validation methodology provided a foundation for the TSRTk. described in the software/TSRTk section of this web site.
